You Went Away

For Ed

Thought of you the other day,

heard a joke, wanted to pass it your way.

I knew you would laugh,

you would laugh all day.

Forgot that you had gone away.

Reached for the phone to give you a call,

nothing on my mind, nothing at all.

Wanted to hear your uplifting voice,

tell you ‘bout my dull, ho hum day.

Forgot that you had gone away.

Gotta get used to you not here.

I miss you so, the good times, good cheer.

Now the nights are cold, dark and long,

colder and darker since you’ve been gone.

I know you’re now in a better place

the pain is gone, there’s a smile on your face

but I wish you were here,

I’ve got so much to say.

I cried all day when you went away.

Hope to be back to normal soon.

Now, up all night, sleep til noon.

Time will pass, the hurt will fade

but

I can’t accept that you went away.
