Clear Your Mind

It is my belief that there are two main ways, two main causes, that lead to mental health issues. They are:

either the lack of someone to express your heart and mind to

Or

having someone to whom you can express your heart and mind but that person does not listen or does not respect those feelings.

Point one. If you have no one in your life with whom to share; to express and discuss worries and fears, hopes and dreams, frustrations and triumphs, then, you will live in a closed world that won’t allow you to grow and explore. You will, eventually, implode. The only one you will talk to is yourself and, without input from other points of view, you will believe everything you tell yourself, good and bad, without a critical filter. You, as your own filter is no filter, at all.

Point two. If you DO find someone who will listen to your thoughts and feelings but does not grant you the respect and time that those feelings deserve, then, not only are you as alone as you are “in point one” but you are also regarded as unworthy.

So, both are unhealthy but which is worse?

It is my contention that point two is worse. In point one, you have yourself, at least, in the beginning of your “discussions”, to live with and explore. In point two, you are dismissed the moment you open up and your trust in the other person is also destroyed. You can’t trust your true friend and you can’t trust yourself. You are truly alone.

My first thoughts against whom this manifests itself most severely is the homeless. Being homeless is such a destroyer of self. Homelessness destroys your health but, more importantly,  your self WORTH. Your mind’s deterioration quickly follows.

There should be no homelessness in America. Period.
